Inktober 2017 - Week 1 - Drawlloween Prompts

This is the second year I've taken part in Inktober. October is my favourite month. Halloween and November the 5th are magical days in my calendar, so spending 31 days with a pen in my hand just adds to the pleasure of the season. I chose to work with the Drawlloween prompts created by the excellent artist Mab Graves (here). As an illustrator working in pen and ink, Inktober is a good excuse for me to push myself, and work on images I wouldn't necessarily elect to make myself. I've never thought of drawing a Werewolf or the Creature from the Black Lagoon, but I'm excited by the results, and to learn about my technique. So here's the first week. All made with a dip pen and a little touch of brush here and there.

Werewolf - Inspired by Werewolf of London (1935)

Goblin. A kind of King. Not as handsome as Jareth from the Labyrinth, but he puts on a fine spread.

Vampire. A kind of Louis and Lestat vibe. I loved Interview with the Vampire when I was a teenager.
Mothman. Ermine moths are the prettiest, and they have skulls on their backs. Their caterpillars make the creepiest webs.

Grim Reaper. I reckon he wears a stetson and rides a combine harvester now.

Black Lagoon. (Do you love me?)

Ectoplasm. I wanted some kind of Edward Gorey cross hatch situation for this one.

Did you take part in Inktober this year? Have you ever managed to complete a month-long art challenge? How did you survive? And what did you keep in mind to help you stay on track? Let me know in the comments or reach out on Instagram @amyleonardcreative because I need all the help I can get!
