Donald Trump: Welcome to the Black Lodge

donald trump: welcome to the black lodge
Today is January 20th. It is Donald Trumps' inauguration and David Lynchs' birthday. I couldn't help but see some connection between the White House and the and Black Lodge from Twin Peaks.

Here is a quote from the character Wyndham Earle speaking about the Black Lodge, where he describes it as:

"A place of almost unimaginable power, chock full of dark forces and vicious secrets. No prayers dare enter this frightful maw. The spirits there care not for good deeds or priestly invocations, they're as likely to rip the flesh from your bone as greet you with a happy "good day." And if harnessed, these spirits in this hidden land of unmuffled screams and broken hearts would offer up a power so vast that its bearer might reorder the Earth itself to his liking..."

It does chill somewhat, doesn't it?

I was inspired to make a cartoon after listening to the Private Eye podcast, which I've only just discovered exists. At the moment it runs as small series' of episodes, and it is proving most invigorating whilst I'm working. I listened to one yesterday talking about the cartoons that feature, and in it, it was pointed out they have made room for many more panels then previously, which can't be bad. Hislop mentioned that there wasn't a great deal of diversity in terms of who sends in cartoons. This in itself triggered a little spark.

I must admit though, it does feel unsettling having this Trump face in my private and personal book. I feel like shouting "OUT! DEMON!" whenever I turn the page.
